I got a new job and I’ll be commuting a lot more. The S4 is great, but I’m worried about having a stick in traffic. I’m not ready to pull the trigger any time soon, but I came across this gem:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It’s a fully loaded 2011 A4 Avant Prestige with 12,000 Miles. While oddly low miles, this isn’t too strange for the dealer as it’s right outside of Aspen.

Thoughts? !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is the link

I’ve never understood the whole stick in traffic thing. Being in traffic sucks ass either way. If you’re really worried about using the clutch alot just sit until you’ve built a large gap up so you can creep in 1st.

I mean, you could always get a tune for it if you want it to go faster. Plus A4 wagon unicorn status. I dig it.

I gotta say if I had to drive in stop and go traffic I would go automatic. I had to drive my mazda over the Bay Bridge in SF a few years ago and got leg cramps. It just sucked.

Don’t believe the hype - a stick in traffic is really not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Think about it this way - with an automatic you’re putting more pressure on the brake pedal, and more often, than you would activating the clutch over and over, all in an effort to keep the car from doing something you don’t want it to do in the first place. With a manual it’s easy enough to pop it out of gear when stationary, something that’s not recommended with automatics. Just leave a bit of room between you and the car ahead and you can easily putter along in 1st, and by all means don’t freak out when some impatient asshole jumps into that buffer space.

Just think of the clutch as more of an on-off switch in order to minimize wear. This is what my dad taught me, and he drove his E34 in LA/OC stop-and-go traffic for 11 years, 110 miles per day, and never once had to replace the clutch in the 189,000 miles he put on that car.

Nah, I say try it for a while and see how unbearable it really is. Remember all the other times you’ll be using your car and NOT stuck in traffic.
